On my wish list: books

I read a lot so it’s been risky in the past for my family to buy me books as gifts.  I made them a list last year and promised not to read any of the books on it until after Christmas.  It gave them some good ideas and I got books from Yolanda Squatpump, The Wolverine (aka my favourite sister who has a great sense of humour) and my parents – I appreciated it so much.  It made it easier for them to get me gifts and I gave them a new list this year.  These are the books that made it and I’m sharing in case you need any last minute ideas for the readers in your life:

  • Avenue of Mysteries by John Iriving – everything he writes is just so good
  • A Year of Marvellous Ways by Sarah Winman – her debut novel When God Was a Rabbit, is one I would definitely recommend (and by the way, I didn’t spell marvelous wrong in the title)
  • Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie – because this book was recommended by my friend E and have you seen her Ted X Talks
  • Between The World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates – Toni Morrison said “This is required reading”
  • Me and Earl and the Dying Girl by Jesse Andrews – it’s always worth having some good YA
  • We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves by Karen Joy Fowler – it’s one of Judy Blume’s favourite summer reads and I’ve already written about how much I like Blume
  • Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes – because she has created so much that’s so good
  • Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng – the story seems right up my alley

If you’ve read any, let me know what you thought.  And I’ll let you know which ones I enjoy.
